Details of tours at each testing center

Shirahama Testing Center / Uragami Testing Center / Shingu Testing Center / Toyama Testing Center

These sites may accept requests for tours at any of their cultivation facilities on land. They will not, in principle, accept requests for tours at their fishery facilities at sea.

Oshima Testing Center

The Oshima Testing Center offers tours both of its cultivation facilities on land and of its bluefin tuna fishery facility at sea. So as not to interfere with bluefin tuna spawning, tours are however limited to 13:00-14:00 every Friday, between September 1 and May 31 only. To visit the sea-based facility, please board a chartered boat at the time designated by the testing center. The testing center will organize the chartered boat for you, but we ask our visitors to pay for this service themselves. Each chartered boat costs 30,000 yen and can hold a maximum of 20 passengers. Please wear trainers when boarding the boat, and bring raincoats, boots etc in the case of bad weather.

Amami Testing Center

The Amami Testing Center offers tours both of its cultivation facilities on land and of its bluefin tuna fishery facility at sea. To visit the sea-based facility, please board a chartered boat from the port of Koniya in Setouchi at the time designated by the testing center. Visitors are asked to pay for this service themselves. Each chartered boat costs 13,000 yen (return) for a maximum of 15 passengers, or 16,000 yen (return) for a maximum of 30 passengers. Boats must be booked in advance.

Chartered boats: Setouchi Boat Hire Union (tel: 0997-72-0377); Koniya Boat Hire Union (tel: 0997-72-0332)
